2016 is going to be a big year for Aussie car lovers. A huge range of cars is coming to our shores, from the highly anticipated Ford Mustang in January, which already has 1000s of pre-orders, to the more grounded Holden Astra at the end of the year.

New Year – New Car

Caradvice has released a full calendar of every car coming out this year month by month, so to help our readers, here’s the list below. We’ve included several highlights to show our most anticipated cars month by month to help you decide if you want to upgrade your wheels in the new year.
Whether you are an enthusiast looking to splash big dollar on a high-performance muscle car, or you are just looking for a new family hatchback, here is a comprehensive list of the new cars coming out over the next year.

2016 Ford Mustang

How could we pick anything other than one of the most highly anticipated cars of the last few months, the new Ford Mustang. If you haven’t ordered yet, you better get on the waiting list quick! All 4000 Mustangs allocated to Australia in 2016 sold out before the year even began and thousands more have expressed their interest in buying – all of this despite its $48,490 price tag!
This car has all the pros of a classic mustang – the bulging bonnet, the signature honeycomb grill, and a 2.3L V8 blasting out some serious power, this car will not disappoint.

Hyundai Elantra

This car is set to be spacious, relaxed and great value for money. It’s not going win any drag races with its weedy 1.8L engine and stiff ride, but its sleek stylings, great fuel economy and plenty of room in the trunk makes it a safe, practical choice for car-conscious families.

March

2016 Toyota Prius

The fourth-gen Prius pushes the boundaries of a car that’s already synonymous with hybrid cars as a whole. The new Prius has a fuel economy of an earth-pleasing 3.2L/100km, and the electric motor can now power you up to 11km/h before petrol power takes over – meaning you can put the pedal to the metal without apologising to Mother Nature.
This car is also said to be quieter and more comfortable than its predecessor while having more brunt and better handling than ever before.

Mini Convertible

Although no longer actually ‘mini’, the new Convertible is a stylish update to an absolute classic. The new soft top takes only 18 seconds close, and can do so at speeds of up to 18 miles an hour – no more getting caught out by a sudden rainstorm.
The Convertible comes with an impressive array of mod cons: dual-zone climate control. 6.5” infotainment display, adaptive suspension and a heads-up display.

Platinum’s Pick

BMW X5 xDrive40e

This hybrid plug-in SUV is the latest in BMW’s attempts to keep up with the latest green technologies. It’s powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder coupled with an 111-hp e-motor with an integrated eight-speed transmission. This gives it a total of 309 horsepower and an electric charge range of 30km. Despite weighing over 5000 pounds, the hybrid motors give the X5 a 0-100km/h of an impressive 6.8 seconds – not bad for an SUV!

2nd Quarter

Platinum’s Pick

Audi R8

Although well out of the price range of most of our customers, the R8 deserves a special mention. One of the most practical and ‘liveable’ sports cars on the market, on its release it blew even the mighty 911 out of the water.

3rd Quarter

Platinum’s Pick

n6

Alfa Romeo Giulia

The resurrection of the Giulia is one of Alfa’s most ambitious cars in years. It’s all part of Alfa’s new strategy to try and almost quadruple production number over the next two years. The new Giulia is suitably aggressive, but is it ready to compete with the powerful BMW 3 Series and the formidable Mercedes C-Class?
With a 0-100km/h of 3.9 seconds and a 380kW turbocharged six-cylinder, it can certainly outstrip the Germans on the track – but will it beat them in the showroom? Only time will tell.

4th Quarter

Platinum’s Pick

n7

Aston Martin DB11

This is a biggy. Aston Martin is continuing the legacy of its world renowned DB series with its newest model, the DB11. Aston Martin has partnered with Daimler, Mercedes-Benz parent company, for the engines and electrics, and the bodywork will undoubtedly be an instant hit.
Information on the DB11 is currently sparse, but we’re sure we will hear a heck of a lot more about it over the upcoming months.
