If you’ve seen one of the many Fast and The Furious movies, you’ll know just how hot some Japanese made vehicles can get. As some of the top car manufacturers in the world, Japanese car companies Subaru, Mazda, Toyota and Mitsubishi consistently produce high quality cars for every market. If you are in the market for a supped-up speed machine, here are a few of the hottest Japanese car imports about to hit our market.

2104 Subaru WRX STI

The all new fourth generation WRX is hitting Australian shores in March 2014 and there is much anticipation for this deluxe Japanese import. Continuing with its trademark all-wheel driving system the WRX sports a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and can go from naught to 100km/h in 5.3 seconds. With an extensive list of improvements implemented in the new model, the 2014 WRX STI is expected to come with a heavier price tag than its predecessor. While the current 2013 model is priced from $39,990, it is expected that the new model will be priced around $59,990.

2014 Toyota 86

The Toyota 86 challenges the traditional idea of a sports car. Instead of focusing on maximizing speed, Toyota designed the 86 to enhance handling and give drivers the best possible experience. Reviewers have commented that the 86 handles beautifully in corners and that once you start driving you just don’t want to stop. You won’t be the fastest car on the road but the handling more than makes up for it. From an affordable $29,990, the Toyota 86 was one of the absolute hottest Japanese imports in 2013 and you may need to wait months to get one.

2014 Mitsubishi Lancer

The Mitsubishi Lancer is another great model that balances performance with affordability. While older models of the Lancer looked a bit boxy, Mitsubishi now designs this car with a sleek, aggressive styling that is sure to impress other drivers. There are a few different versions of the Lancer. The most basic offers 148 horsepower and front wheel drive with a price tag from $19,990; while the most expensive model uses a 237 horsepower turbo engine and all-wheel drive. If you need a bit more storage room, you can also get the Lancer as a hatchback as well.

One of the quintessential roadsters for the past decade, the MX-5 will be getting face lift with a larger grill and hawk-eye headlights. It will also be powered by a 1.3 and 1.5 litre turbocharged engine and have a price tag around $50,000.
