So this month I was gladly accepting of a brand new Audi A4 2.0 TDI Sedan with full S-Line Kit and Factory Satellite Navigation.

There are a number of variants available in the A4 being diesel & petrol versions and also 2 & 4 wheel drive options applicable.

The 2.0TDI which I was provided by Audi Sutherland was a joy to drive. Quieter than you would expect from a diesel but the Germans seem to have this down pat. The luxurious seating is both comfortable and figure hugging and the ride is firm & enjoyable in any variant.

The cabin is both luxurious and functional. The multi function steering wheel, touch screen navigation and voice activation makes it a mobile office that can offer comfort on every road surface, while the state of the art safety features allow this vehicle in any variant to be a great family sedan or wagon but also offers the sports enthusiast the all wheel drive version for greater handling and feel.

As with most prestige German vehicles being imported into Australia the A4 has an option list to rival any vehicle in or close to its class.

Having said this even the base model 1.8t petrol comes with rear parking sensors, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, electronic park break & 8 airbags!

Up against premium competitors in BMW & Mercedes Benz the benchmark is always high but Audi have embraced the challenge and are proving to be more than worthy adversaries for the older heavyweights.

There is no doubt that in this luxury sedan bracket that the competition is stiff but the quality of vehicles on offer is also very impressive.

Something to consider if looking at a diesel variant is that on the frugal models being less than 7.0 litres per 100k’s the Luxury car tax threshold does not start until $75k allowing you to get a very well optioned German sedan without paying Luxury car tax which would be applicable to petrol models!

At Platinum Direct, based on a on recommended retail price of $57900 plus on road costs you can expect to pay about $175 per week subject to status.

Our thanks to Audi Sutherland for the use of the vehicle to write this independent review.
