We’re going to let you in on a little secret. Women like cars too. No longer is a car a symbol of masculinity. Women often rule the roost when it comes to having the last say on a vehicle purchase.

For the men, this doesn’t mean that your ride won’t attract the opposite sex, in fact quite the opposite. Choosing the right car can make you quite popular with the ladies. But you must choose a car that they will like.

If you are a guy shopping around for a car that would appeal to the dame of your dreams, here are five things women notice about your car that might surprise you and influence your choice:

Choose a masculine car, but not excessively so

A masculine car, driven by a confident man who knows how to handle it has timeless appeal. Look for a car that is masculine, but not over the top. A design with sexy curves, rather than a squarish, snub nosed shape, is most appealing to women. The E-Type Jag would be a classic example but there are plenty of modern marques with less extreme lines that would fit the bill nicely.

Responsible and safe cars

Women also love cars with advanced safety features, like the latest BMWs. If a woman feels safe in your car she will feel safe with you. Also look for comfort factors such as cushy leather seats and good air-conditioning and heating and practicalities such as plenty of storage for luggage for that romantic weekend away in the country or week away at a beach resort.
For the lady with a green thumb, a hybrid vehicle such as the Toyota Prius, Hybrid Lexus GS or Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, will make you look socially responsible and a person more likely to give than take. Always a winner!
If you’re a fun guy then feel free to express your personality in your choice of vehicle. A new Mini Cooper, VW Beetle convertible or similar ‘cute’ car will certainly get noticed by the female of the species and are great conversation starters at petrol stations and in parking lots.

Keep it fresh

That new car smell is as intoxicating as the finest after-shave, so be sure to keep it that way. Keep the interior free of sweaty gym gear, used takeaway coffee cups, empty water bottles, fast food wrappers and anything else that could make the new woman in your life suspect your home life is just as disorganised. A clean and fresh-smelling car interior shows that you care about her and her comfort.

Install a good sound system

Mood music is as important in the car as it is at home. Install a great sound system and a carefully thought out selection of music. Include some relaxing music for late night drives home and some fun selections for when you’re stuck in traffic or out on the road for a day out.

Avoid flashy colours

Unless you drive a flashy car like a Lamborghini, forget flashy colours like canary yellow. On the other hand, beige is boring. Think dark, subtle colours like charcoal grey, deep midnight blue or even black. Women appreciate upscale cars that don’t scream for attention but represent style, class and quality.
